Studio portrait of VX29141 Sapper (Spr) Stanley Cameron Burke, 2/10 Field Company, RAE, of Ararat, Vic. He was a bank clerk prior to enlisting in June 1940. Spr Burke became a prisoner of war following the fall of Singapore in February 1942. He died of illness in Thailand on 29 January 1944. Spr Burke was 26 years of age. His brother VX60318 Corporal John Robert Burke, 42 Landing Craft Company, RAE, was killed in action in Bougainville on 9 June 1945.
