Description
Nickel plated steel spur with long straight neck and the remains of a small spiked rowell. Both upper and lower straps are stitched in place. The upper strap also carried improvised stitched repairs apparently made in the field. The upper strap is attached to a swivelling buckle. The inside of the spur is impressed 'M H & Co 1898'; the neck ''W [broad arrow symbol] D 3' and '41154'.

This type of spur was issued to both British and Australian mounted troops during the Boer War.
