[Afghanistan 2009]
Green cloth bound sketchbook containing six drawings from Major Julian Thirkill when deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 to undertake operations as part of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF).
The first image is on the verso of page 7 and is primarily loose drawings. In the top half of the page there are four images. There is a series of fourteen interlocking rings, a curved bladed sword, a straight sword with the hilt made up from interconnected rings and below these is an elaborate hammer. At the bottom of the page the artist has combined into the hilt and top section of a sword. The hilt is made up from interconnecting rings with four jewel-like medallions. The artist stated that this was his interpretation of 'Thor's Hammer.'
