Description
Members of Reconstruction Task 4 (RTF-4), including the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) at ease with their Bushmasters at Camp Holland (Multinational Base Tarin Kowt). This image was taken moments before an informal group portrait was photographed - see the final image at P07964.008.
RTF-4 deployed to Uruzgan province in April 2008, and comprised 41 different units from the Australian Defence Force. Its mission was to conduct protected reconstruction operations in the remote areas of the province as part of a broader Dutch-led task force. Over the following six months, the mission developed health, education, and security infrastructure, including the construction of bridges at key river crossings throughout Uruzgan and neighbouring provinces. RTF-4 completed its mission and returned to Australia in October 2008.
