Description

Studio portrait of NX55844 Private (Pte) Leonard William Jackson, 22nd Brigade Headquarters. Born in England during the First World War to Mrs Edith Jackson (nee Shephard) and her husband Captain Albert Edward Jackon MC, 53rd Battalion, Leonard Jackson enlisted on 2 July 1940 at the age of 19 and was posted to the 22nd Briagade Headquarters. He lived in Canberra before enlistment and was an Assistant in the Commonwealth Public Service. Pte Jackson died of illness as a prisoner of war of the Japanese at Sandakan, Borneo, on 16 April 1945.
