Studio portrait of Able Seaman Leslie Laurence Hart, HMAS Australia, RAN, of Queanbeyan, NSW. Hart enlisted on the 1 July 1943. He was killed in action on 5 January 1945 aboard HMAS Australia which was covering the allied invasion of Luzon Island, Philippines. Between 5 and 9 January, the ship was subjected to repeated suicide attacks from Japanese aircraft, resulting in the deaths of three officers and forty one ratings. This was the ship's final action in the Second World War.
