Description

Steamship HMAS (later HMAT) Berrima in an unidentified harbour. Members of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF), including the commander Colonel William Holmes, have signed the mount of the photograph. The P&O passenger liner SS Berrima had been requisitioned for use by the RAN, being commissioned on 17 August 1914. Berrima left Sydney on 19 August 1914 carrying men of the AN&MEF for operations against the German colonies in New Guinea.
