Description
2769 Corporal (Cpl) George Lionel Butler (probably front) and an unidentified Private rest on a deck of HMAT Benalla (A24) during their journey from Australia. The 5th Reinforcements, 3rd Pioneer Battalion embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Benalla on 9 November 1916. Cpl Butler was a photographer and brass moulder prior to enlistment and took some of the shipboard photographs in this collection. (One of a collection of photographs belonging to Lieutenant (Lt) Robert Trevor Williams, 3rd Pioneer Battalion.)
