Studio portrait of 6679 Sergeant (Sgt) Abraham John Woodward, 8th Field Ambulance. A baker of Newcastle prior to enlistment, he embarked with the rank of Lance Corporal on 10 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11). He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 4 June 1916. On 16 October 1917 he transferred to the 12th Field Ambulance. On 12 May 1919 he left England for the return voyage to Australia aboard the Port Napier and he was discharged on 27 August 1919.
