Studio portrait of 517 Private (Pte) Eric Arthur (Dick) Busby and 514 Pte Alec Busby. Ptes Eric and Alec Busby, brothers from Sydney NSW, enlisted together with the 6th Light Horse Regiment on 13 November 1914. Both men served on Gallipoli and for the majority of their service in the First World War, were stationed in the Middle East. Eric rose through the ranks, gained an officer's commision and eventually held the rank of Lieutenant. Throughout his service, Alec suffered from various medical illnesses, including typhoid, and returned to Australian briefly in 1915 to convalesce before rejoining his unit overseas. Both Eric and Alec returned to Australia at the end of the war.
