Group portrait of members of 7th Reinforcements, 50th Battalion. Identified are, left to right: 2783 Private (Pte) William Baden Powell; 2786 Pte William Alfred Stevens; and 2788 Pte William Thomas Willmott. All members embarked from Adelaide on 6 November 1916 aboard HMAT Afric (A19) for Plymouth, England. Pte Willmott, a butcher from Rose Park, South Australia, trained in England with the 13th Training Battalion before proceeding to France to join his battalion on the Western Front near Armentieres. Pte Willmott was wounded in action near Villers-Bretonneux on 25 April 1918 and was evacuated to No 11 Stationary Hospital in Rouen where he died of these wounds on 30 April 1918. He was aged 19 years. Ptes Powell and Stevens served until the end of the war and returned to Australia for discharge in March 1919.
