Studio portrait of 996 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) William Henry Searle, C Company, 37th Battalion, of Rutherglen, Vic. A baker prior to enlistment, he embarked aboard HMAT Persic on 3 June 1916. L Cpl Searle served on the Western Front and was killed in action on the 12 October 1917. He was 23 years of age.
