Studio portrait of NX82458 Private (Pte) Hugh McKinnon, 55/53 Battalion. A dairy farmer of Kyogle, NSW, he enlisted on 6 January 1942. Pte McKinnon served in New Guinea where he was killed in action on 19 December 1942, aged 20 years. Original caption reads: NX82458 Private Hugh McKinnon "missing believed killed" at Buna N Guinea on 19th December 1942 attempting to rescue some wounded comrades from a dugout within a few yards of an enemy machine gun post.
