Studio portrait of 4170 Corporal (later Sergeant) John Joseph Collins, 8th Battalion. A furniture salesman of Richmond, Victoria, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Demosthenes on 29 December 1915. Sergeant Collins was killed in action on 20 September 1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium. He was aged 29 years.
