Description
Members of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) participating in a Jungle Warfare School. After the Malayan Emergency was officially over 2RAR was on active service patrolling the border area classified as a "Black Zone". 2RAR served in this area from July to late October 1962 and from 28 May until 2 July 1963. Identified are: 235175 Lieutenant Maxwell Thomas Turrell (far left, head down); Lt Karl Baudistel (second from left, doing up his belt); and Lt Barry Hawkins, Royal Australian Artillery (far right). Lt Baudistel was killed in action in Vietnam on 13 August 1967.
