Description

An aerial view, taken from a 9 Squadron helicopter, of shell scrapes dug by North Vietnamese Army (NVA) soldiers in the lead up to the NVA attack on Fire Support Base (FSB) Coral on 13 May 1968. The NVA and Viet Cong (VC) units known to be in this area at the time were 141 and 165 NVA Regiments, 274 and 275 VC Regiments and the Dong Nai Regiment. FSB Coral is in Bien Hoa Province and 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) were deployed there as part of Operation Toan Thang I. The purple band and the triangle shapes are defects in the original colour slide.
