Outdoor group portrait of three soldiers and several horses from the 1st Australian Remount Unit. The handwritten note on the reverse of the image reads “Sergeant Meadway, Tim Dillon, & Dan O Keefe getting water out of a well on the way up.” 403 Sergeant Charles Bernard Meadway from Bendigo Victoria was later promoted to Lieutenant. 1087 Private (Pte) Timothy Dillon was from Bruni, Tasmania. 429 Pte Daniel O’Keeffe from Benalla, Victoria was later promoted to Lance Corporal. All three arrived back in Australia in August 1919. This is one of a series of 17 images relating to the service of Private Clarence Albury Hickman.
