Description
Collection of 4 original letters (2 incomplete) and 1 envelope written by Lieutenant (Lt) Emil John Hamilton Clarke (more commonly known as Jack Clarke) between November 1915 when he arrived in Egypt from South Australia to July 1916 when he was serving on the Western Front. The letters were sent by Lt Clarke to his parents in South Australia, who then posted them to one of his 8 siblings, with instructions to send them to the next sibling and then return them to their mother. Also includes a typed transcription of the letters, with some annotations. Lt Clarke was killed in action at Bullecourt on 15 April 1917.
