Binns, William Johnstone (b.1880 - d.1957)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Captain William Johnstone Binns, AAMC, England and France. Collection consists of three letters (one is incomplete) to his young nephew Kenneth Johnstone Binns. There are two pages to the incomplete letter which is not dated. It discusses travelling by ship and calling into ports (not named). A three page letter written from No 2 Camp Parkhouse, England is dated 3 October 1917 in which Binns describes English trains; lack of sugar; German air raids; and family at home. The third letter is four pages long, written on 11 November 1918 from "in the field, France". In this letter Binns describes trains and their cargo; Germans planes; guns; family; and Joan of Arc. The envelope to this letter is included.
Binns was awarded a Military Cross while working as Regimental medical Officer attached to 33 Battalion, for his untiring efforts, zeal, skill and thoughtfulness during operations near Bony from 29 September to 2 October 1918.
