Description
Collection of 11 original handwritten letters and accompanying envelopes, written by SX712 Private Colin Maxwell Gardner to his mother and family in Australia, from December 1939 to December 1941. Serving with the 2/10 Battalion, Pte Gardner wrote of his experiences in Ingleburn Camp before he departed Australia, his time at sea aboard ship, and his arrival in England. Some letters describe the conditions he encountered in Egypt and Palestine and are written in the language of the time. Pte Gardner was killed in action in New Guinea on 28 August 1942.
