Description
Related to the Second World War service of VX139898 Private Jack Lawrence (Smokey) Howson, 39 Battalion. The letter to his friend Floss (Mrs Florence Dale), is written on toilet paper. Pte Howson refers to paper scarcity, hence his use of toilet paper as writing paper, and depleted postal services. He also writes that he "is hoping to be alive by the time" Floss writes to him once more.
