Studio portrait of 14299 Stoker Petty Officer (Sto PO) Charles Gordon Alford, HMAS Perth of West Melbourne, Vic. Sto PO enlisted in the RAN on 7 April 1924. He served on various ships and shore establishments in the 1920s and 1930s, before being posted to HMAS Perth as Leading Stoker on 19 May 1939. Sto PO Alford was killed in action on 1 March 1942, aged 38, when HMAS Perth was sunk by Japanese destroyers in the Sunda Strait.
