Description

Pre enlistment studio portrait of 4660 Private (later Corporal (Cpl)) James (Jim) Rowlands, 7th Battalion of Melbourne, Vic (originally of Aberystwyth, South Wales). A bank clerk prior to enlistment, he embarked from Melbourne with the 14th Reinforements aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 28 January 1916. Cpl Rowlands served on the Western Front and was killed in action on 4 October 1917. He was 29 years of age.
