Description
Studio portrait of 2566 Private (Pte) William Conway. A bread carter from Berry, NSW, Pte Conway embarked on 9 August 1915 with the 13th Battalion, 8th Reinforcements, aboard HMAT Runic (A54). In September 1916 Pte Conway was reported missing. Later investigations revealed that he and several other soldiers went out from behind the safety of the trenches at Pozieres to recover wounded and were never seen again.
