Studio portrait of 1688 (later 1688A) Private (Pte) John (Jack) Harley, 25th Battalion, of Maryborough, Qld. A farmer prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney, NSW, with the 2nd Reinforcements aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 20 August 1915. Pte Harley served in Egypt, Gallipoli and on the Western Front. He was killed in action at Pozieres, Somme Sector, France on 6 August 1916, aged 25.
