Description

Outdoor group portrait of twelve unidentified Allied prisoners of war (POW) in costumes at Güstrow POW camp in Germany. Two are dressed as women and eight are wearing Pierrot costumes. The handwritten note on the face of the image reads: "The Gustrow "Bing Boys" 1918." "The Bing Boys Are Here" was the first of a series of revues which played at the Alhambra Theatre, London during the last two years of World War I and they are probably the origin of the name used by the POWs for their production. One of a series of 157 images from the collection of 4199 Sergeant William Charles Groves, 14th Battalion, an Australian prisoner of war held at Güstrow POW camp.
