Studio portrait of 176 Private (Pte) Charles Schmitzer. A farmer from Mitchells Island, NSW, Pte Schmitzer enlisted on 4 January 1916. He embarked with the A Company, 34th Battalion, from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 2 May 1916. He was killed in action on 8 June 1917 at Messines. He was 22 years old.
