Photograph of 412150 Sergeant (Sgt) Harold Lamb RAAF. Prior to enlistment, Lamb worked for the Literary Department of the Sydney Morning Herald and had considerable exposure to all three Services as a defence roundsman. Sgt Lamb flew bombers across the South Atlantic to Africa with the RAF Ferry Group. After flying a bomber to North Africa, the American transport plane in which Sgt Lamb was returning to the United States was shot down. Thirteen British and twelve American airmen were also lost in the air crash. Sergeant Lamb has no known grave; his name is commemorated on the Ottawa Memorial, Canada.
This photograph was printed on the front page of Boomerang, The Sydney Morning Herald, February 1943.
