Description
Lieutenant (Lt) Philip (Phillip) Ignatius Callary, 9th Light Horse Regiment, on horseback at Mena Camp. A general storekeeper prior to enlistment, Lt Callary embarked with B Squadron from Melbourne aboard HMAT Karroo (A10) on 11 February 1915. Whilst serving at Gallipoli, he was promoted to Captain. He was killed in action on 29 August 1915, aged 29. Captain Callary has no known grave and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli.
