Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX34705 (Q126283) Craftsman Hugh Noel Doherty, 2/2 Australian Infantry Troops Workshop, Second Australian Imperial Force, New Guinea, Australia and Netherlands East Indies, 1943-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one handmade diary of Craftsman Hugh Noel Doherty. This diary, created from letter paper and thread, was used by Craftsman Doherty during his service with 2/2 Australian Infantry Troops Workshop in New Guinea, Australia and the Netherlands East Indies between 1943 and 1945. In his diary, Craftsman Doherty writes about travelling from Morotai to Borneo, Japanese air raids, seeing large numbers of wounded soldiers, building defence posts, Japanese snipers and soldiers in the vicinity, and collecting souvenirs. This diary also contains addresses of family members and friends, and additional notes.
