Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 437963 Flight Sergeant Alexander John Hunter, 7 Service Flying Training School and 82 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and Netherlands East Indies, 1944-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Collection consists of two copies of a graduation dinner card and one letter with original envelope. The cards commemorate the graduation dinner of the 43rd cohort of 7 Service Flying Training School, Deniliquin, New South Wales, dated 26 May 1944. They contain the details of the dinner and the names and nicknames of the cohort. The first copy of the card is annotated with the units that each cohort member went on to join, and the second copy of the card is autographed by many of the cohort members. The letter, dated 29 August 1945, was written from Flight Sergeant Hunter to his sister, Stella Hunter, while he was serving with 82 Squadron in the Netherlands East Indies. In his letter, Flight Sergeant writes about having a quiet time with the war finished, seeing films and a Gracie Fields concert, expecting to serve in Japan, converting to Mustang aircraft, and obtaining a monkey.
