Description

Studio portrait of 290 Trooper William James Manning, 4th Contingent, 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen. Trooper Manning served in South Africa from 1901 to 1902. He reached the rank of Sergeant (Sgt) and, while in South Africa, suffered from enteric fever. Following his return to Tasmania he became seriously ill and died at Richmond on 3 October 1902. Private records and published items relating to the service of Sgt Manning are held at the Australian War Memorial.
