Description
Collection relating to NX11881 Corporal (Cpl) John Charles Kennedy, who served with 2/2 Battalion during the Second World War. Comprises one original 8 page handwritten letter dated 20 May 1941, written by Cpl Kennedy to his sweetheart (later wife) Mary Theresa Callaghan. The letter primarily describes his escape, via overland and by boat, from northern Greece to Cyprus after the German invasion of Greece. In the second half of his letter, he mentions the camp conditions in Palestine, including food, recreation facilities, and the weather. Cpl Kennedy also expresses his love for Mary, and his hope that they will be safely reunited in the future.
