Studio portrait of 2461 Private (Pte) Charles William James Tucker, 23rd Battalion, of Newport, Vic. A bottle-blower prior to enlistment, Pte Tucker embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard RMS Osterley on 29 September 1915. He was killed in action at Pozieres, France, on his 25th birthday on 28 July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. His brother, 2766 Pte Arthur Henry Tucker, died of wounds in France on 26 April 1918.
