Description

Aart Hopman was a submariner with the Royal Netherlands Navy and was based in Western Australia during the Second World War. He married an Australian girl and they later settled in Australia, where Aart joined the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). After a period of time at sea as the Captain of HMAS Emu, Aart was appointed as Assistant Director Naval Intelligence Technical (ADNIT), a position he held until he retired from the RAN in 1977.
