Studio portrait of 400474 Sergeant (Sgt) Douglas Vaughan Jenkins, 2 Operational Training Unit RAAF. Born in Mansfield, Victoria, Sgt Jenkins enlisted on 14 September 1940. On 14 August 1941, Sgt Jenkins was killed in an experimental flying exercise in Yorkshire, England. Flying Beaufighter T4652, Sgt Jenkins was trialling the effects of removing the bomb rails from the wings. An investigation into the accident revealed that during flight one of T4652's engines became detached, causing the aircraft to crash. Sgt Jenkins is buried in the Brandesburton (St Mary) Churchyard in Yorkshire, UK.
