Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of WX11111 Lieutenant Beanie “Bene” Keamy, 2/14 Australian General Hospital, Singapore, 1945.
Collection consists of one four-page letter from Lieutenant Keamy to her family, dated c. mid-September 1945. Keamy was a nurse with the 2/14 Australian General Hospital, and served in Singapore from 11 September 1945.
In her letter, she discusses the conditions of the recently liberated Changi prisoners of war (POWs), the Changi POW camp, the help that the local Chinese people had given the Allied POWs, repatriation, accommodation at the old Japanese air force headquarters, and her hopes to be home again soon.
