Corporal Rixon discusses her training as a mechanic; value of apprenticeship undertaken through the army; specialty courses for different vehicle types; working on ASLAVs and Bushmasters; aspects of life on deployment including accommodation, "gastro" and hygiene; mixed toilet facilities; rocket attack threat and attitudes towards this; reflections on women serving on the front line; recreation leave arrangements; working voluntarily with an outreach program (Female Engagement Team) to assist local Afghan women which involves facilitating assistance such as literacy, and providing equipment for learning.
