Description

Studio portrait of 6594 Private (Pte) Herbert George Lowe, 25th Battalion. A blacksmith of Pickanjinnie, Queensland, before enlistment at the age of 25, Pte Lowe embarked from Sydney with the 19th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 7 February 1917. Pte Lowe served on the Western Front and was with his unit in Belgium for just a week before he was killed by a shell on 29 October 1917. He is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery in Belgium.
