Studio portrait of 426223 Flying Officer (FO) Timothy Felix Hayes, 12 Squadron RAAF. A junior clerk of Innisfail, Queensland, he enlisted at the age of 18 on 23 May 1942. FO Hayes was killed during a flying battle in his Vultee Vengeance (aircraft number A29-209) on 5 March 1944, off Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. He has no known grave; his name is commemorated on the Lae Memorial, Papua New Guinea.
