Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX34693 Private Donald James Radnell, of the 2/24 Australian Infantry Battalion. Collection consists of a 47 page typed memoir titled 'I Enlisted' written by Pte Radnell. The manuscript begins with his enlistment with the Australian Army in 1940 and ends with his return to Australia in August 1945. Radnell was captured and taken as a prisoner of war in May 1941. Much of the memoir describes his experiences as a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany, where he was held at Stalag IV-B. The memoir also describes a failed attempt at escape.
