Signed portrait of Admiral Sir John Rushworth Jellicoe GCB OM GCVO. Admiral Jellicoe was in command of the British Grand Fleet at the Battle of Jutland, Denmark, on 31 May 1916 to 1 June 1916. He was appointed First Sea Lord in November 1916 but was abruptly dismissed from that office in 1917 by the new First Lord of the Admiralty. He was made a Viscount in 1918 and was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet in 1919. Admiral of the Fleet the Viscount Jellicoe served as Governor-General of New Zealand from September 1920 to November 1924. He was made an earl following his return to England in 1925.
