Studio portrait of 387 Company Sergeant Major (CMS) Harold Jefferson Trenery Burton, 6th Battalion, of Caulfield, Victoria. A commercial traveller before enlistment, CMS Burton embarked with the 6th Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 19 October 1914. He survived the war and returned to Australia on 8 April 1918. CMS Burton was one of five brothers who enlisted in the First World War, copies of these portraits are also held in the National Collection.
