Studio portrait of 149 Corporal (Cpl) Archibald Trenery Burton, 12th Field Company Australian Engineers, of St Kilda, Victoria. A carpenter and joiner prior to enlistment, Cpl Burton embarked with the 2nd Field Company Engineers from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orivetto (A3) on 21 October 1914. He died of wounds on 19 October 1917 aged 33 at Ypres, Belgium. Cpl Burton was one of five brothers to enlist in the First World War, copies of these portraits are also held in the National Collection.
