Studio portrait of 123 Corporal (Cpl) Gordon Burton, 8th Field Company Engineers, of St Kilda, Victoria, incorporating a hand-painted colour patch and medal ribbon. A carpenter prior to enlistment, Cpl Burton embarked with the 2nd Field Company Engineers from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orvieto (A3) on 21 October 1914. He returned to Australia on 5 April 1918. Cpl Burton was one of five brothers to enlist in the First World War, copies of these portraits are also held in the National Collection.
