Noble, John James Boyall (Private, b.1907 - d.1943)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of SX9236 Private (Pte) John James Boyall Noble who served with the Australian Army Service Corps, 8th Division Ammunition Sub Park. Pte Noble died of illness in Burma as a prisoner of war of the Japanese on 13 September 1943. Collection comprises of 131 original letters written between November 1940 and 4 February 1942 by Pte Noble to his wife and children in Australia; 2 prisoner of war letter cards sent by Pte Noble to his wife; 3 letters of sympathy written to his wife after Pte Noble's death; one letter to his mother and typed transcripts of 25 letters written by Pte Noble to his sister Molly and his brother Andrew and their respective spouses. The letters cover his time driving trucks in the Northern Territory and his time in Malaya before the fall of Singapore.
