Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX27523 Signaller Allan Frederick McKinlay, 9 Division Signals, Second Australian Imperial Force, Middle East, c 1940-1942.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Collection consists of one one-page letter from Signaller McKinlay to his sister, Dorothy Ainsworth, written while he was serving in the Middle East between 1940 and 1942. In this letter, Signaller McKinlay writes of a souvenir butter knife that he created of metal obtained from a crashed German Messerschmitt aircraft and coloured plastic from toothbrush handles. This souvenir originally accompanied the letter.
