106 page thesis. The document examines an approach the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the archaeological study of historical fortifications. The thesis uses the 1892 defences of Hobson's Bay victoria for a case study. The theory behind the analysis approach, history of the fortifications and development of the GIS study are all examined in depth. Appendices include GIS Metadata from the study, data on the artillery pieces emplaced at Fort Gellibrand, and copies of the maps used in and created during the study.
