Studio portrait of 4742 Acting Corporal (A/Cpl) Charles Radford Burne, 15th Battalion. Originally from County Wicklow, Ireland, A/Cpl Burne was an axeman from Oakey, Queensland prior to enlistment and embarked with the 15th Reinforcements from Brisbane on HMAT Commonwealth on 28 March 1916. Later reverting to the rank of Private, he was listed as missing in action in France. It was subsequently determined that he had been killed in action on 11 April 1917, aged 22, and having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. His brother 3700 Lance Corporal Arthur Edward Thomas Burne was killed in action on 12 October 1916.
