Outdoor formal group portrait of the 21st reinforcements to the 10th Battalion. Most of these men embarked on board HMAT A16 Port Melbourne from Port Melbourne, Vic, on 21 October 1916. Identified personnel include: 6535 Private (Pte) William Horace Lamshed, 4th row from rear, 9th from left, who was killed in action in Belgium on 20 September. His cousin 6536 (Pte) Clarence Albert Lamshed also of the 10th Bn, was part of the same reinforcment, survived the war, and is probably also in this portrait but his position is unknown. The Australian War Memorial's Roll of Honour lists the names of twenty seven men from this group who died on active service. However just as with Pte Clarence Lamshed, their postions in the portrait are not known. This group contains several bandsmen and soldiers in the first two rows who are holding various instruments such as bass and side drums, trombones, euphoniums, trumpets and bugles. Three men in the front row are holding signal flags.
